Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 August 2026

This policy explains what Litt Notes collects, why, and what control you have over it. It covers both the Litt Notes app and this website.

The short version

  • Speech-to-text transcription runs on your device. Your recordings are not sent to a third-party transcription service to be turned into text.
  • You can use Litt Notes without an account. If you don’t sign in, your notes and recordings stay on your device and are never uploaded.
  • If you sign in to sync, your notes and voice recordings are stored on our hosting provider’s servers so they can reach your other devices.
  • We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use your notes or recordings for advertising.

What we collect

Your notes and recordings

When you record a voice note, the app captures audio through your device’s microphone and creates an audio file, along with the transcribed text, a created and updated timestamp, and whether you’ve marked the note as done.

If you are not signed in, all of this stays in local storage on your device. We have no copy and no access to it.

Account information

If you choose to sign in with Google to enable syncing, we receive your name, email address, profile picture and a Google account identifier. We use these to create your account, keep you signed in, and associate your notes with you. We do not post anything to your Google account or read anything else from it.

Microphone access

The app requests microphone permission because recording voice notes is what it does. Recording only happens when you actively start it. The app does not listen in the background, and it has no wake word.

How transcription works

Litt Notes uses your device’s built-in speech recognition and is configured to require on-device recognition. In practice that means the audio is converted to text locally on your phone or computer, rather than being uploaded to a cloud transcription API for processing.

Speech recognition is provided by your operating system, so your device manufacturer’s own terms and privacy policy also apply to that step.

Syncing and storage

Syncing is optional and only happens when you are signed in. When it is on, your note text and your voice recordings are uploaded to our backend, hosted with Supabase, so that they can be delivered to your other signed-in devices. Data may be stored on servers outside your country.

When you delete a note in the app while signed in, we delete both the note record and its stored audio file from our servers.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that make the app work:

  • Google — for sign-in, if you choose to use it.
  • Supabase — for database, authentication and file storage.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so.

Your rights and choices

  • Use the app without an account. Don’t sign in, and nothing leaves your device.
  • Delete individual notes. Deleting a note removes its text and audio from our servers too.
  • Delete your account and all associated data. Email us and we’ll action it.
  • Request a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it.
  • Withdraw microphone permission at any time in your device settings, though the app can’t record without it.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR or CCPA. To exercise any of these, contact us at the address below.

Children

Litt Notes is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

This website

littnotes.com is a WordPress site. If you leave a comment or send us a message, we receive what you submit along with your IP address and browser user agent, which helps with spam detection. Our host may keep standard server access logs.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we’ll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
